Kohler Power’s 3 steps to a sustainable 2023

It’s no secret that the data centre industry is booming, thanks to our love of digital technology and all things online. But, as with any major growth, this presents a host of environmental challenges, from high energy consumption to greenhouse gas emissions and e-waste generation. Fortunately, Kohler Power are leading the way in making data centres more sustainable.

As a global leader in data centre power solutions, Kohler Power is determined to make a positive impact on sustainability in 2023. They know that it’s more important than ever to adopt eco-friendly practices, especially as demand for data centre services continues to rise. That’s why Kohler Power is taking three major steps in 2023 to accelerate their sustainability efforts.

Step 1: Leading by example

The company has taken a big leap in its sustainability efforts by appointing Laura Kohler as the business’s first Chief Sustainability and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. In this new role, Laura will lead a team of experts and work to promote sustainability, social impact, and diversity across the company’s global operations, including its data centres division. With a focus on developing eco-friendly products and processes, Kohler Power is demonstrating its unwavering commitment to sustainability at all levels of the organization. Kohler’s appointment marks a significant step towards a greener and more equitable future.

Step 2: A renewable journey to the South Pole

Kohler Power is partnering with explorer Robert Swan OBE on his 2023 Undaunted Expedition, where he will trek to the Geographic South Pole relying solely on renewable energy sources. To help him on his journey, Kohler Power has provided Swan with a custom-built generator that uses a Kohler diesel engine fueled by hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). This renewable paraffinic fuel, made from plant and animal oils, was launched by Kohler Power last year for all of its diesel engines. Not only is HVO environmentally friendly, but it also reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90%. Kohler Power’s involvement in this expedition is just one of the ways in which the company is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its engines.

Step 3: Sharing expertise for a greener future

As part of their commitment to sustainability, Kohler Power has contributed to the book ‘Greener Data: Actionable Insights from Industry Leaders.’ The book offers practical advice on how to make the tech, telecom, and data centre industries more environmentally sustainable. Kohler Power’s contribution, titled ‘Powering a Better Future: Kohler’s Evolutionary and Revolutionary Approaches,’ provides a unique perspective from the standpoint of a supplier of backup power. With the growing global demand for data, reliable backup power sources are more essential than ever to keep mission-critical applications running in the event of a power failure. Kohler Power’s experience and expertise make their chapter an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to make the data centre industry more sustainable.
